The Little Rock Port Authority has received federal funding to study how to make railroad crossings safer and less congested near the Port.

The Little Rock Port Authority is working on a study to improve safety and traffic flow where roads and railroads meet near the Port of Little Rock. This includes the two busy areas of Fourche Dam Pike (used by about 14,000 vehicles a day) and Lindsey Road (about 8,000 vehicles a day). The Study is funded by a federal grant.
The Study will look at ways to reduce delays and make crossings safer for all users. It will review nearby roads, sidewalks, and properties to come up with solutions that benefit drivers, trains, truck traffic, and other road users.
The Study's goal is to find practical ways to improve traffic flow and safety where roads and train tracks meet.
What the Study is About
This Study is looking at ways to improve safety and reduce traffic delays where trains cross Fourche Dam Pike and Lindsey Road. One option being considered is building a bridge or tunnel, making it safer and more efficient for cars and trains. The study will explore whether that’s possible, how much it would cost, and what other safety improvements could work if a bridge or tunnel isn’t doable.
Why This Matters
Trains are important for businesses at the Port, but more train traffic has led to traffic jams and safety concerns. This study will explore possible solutions—like building bridges—to help traffic move more smoothly and safely.
