BWA has received funding from the Arkansas Department of Agriculture – Natural Resources Division 319 NPS program to develop a base 2-D HEC-RAS model for the Beaver Lake watershed. The goal of this effort is to better understand stormwater behavior and flooding hotspots across the watershed and provide a tool that supports regional watershed planning.

The flood model will build on previous studies and local data to improve clarity around stormwater challenges and ultimately produce a user-friendly GIS tool that communities and watershed partners can use to inform planning and project prioritization. It needs to reflect real-world conditions and support the needs of communities across the watershed.

Local knowledge and experience are essential to making this model useful.

    Project goals:
    • Establishing a Work Group of local water professionals to guide model development
    • Developing a GIS-based tool to identify stormwater and flooding hotspots and prioritize mitigation projects
    • Identifying areas where additional study or funding may be needed
    • Testing potential land use and watershed changes to understand impacts on stormwater capacity and flooding in municipal systems
    • Supporting regional planning and resource prioritization
    • Contributing data and insights to the Arkansas State Flood Plan
    What we need from you:
    • Identify flooding hot spots on the map below
    • Share other comments and concerns regarding flooding in the Beaver Lake Watershed
    • Share data with the project team here

Please share data, hotspots, and comments on using the flood model by June 15, 2026.
